My Dream, My Future

A dream is a product of our fantasy and our sense of reality combined. Part fantasy in the way that it takes us to places we've never been to, lets us meet personalities we've never known and and be what we've never thought of becoming.

The other part makes us realize by popping those thought balloons and waking us up at our current situation. It reminds us that without hard work, dreams remain as dreams and we are not an inch closer to them.

Dreams are products of our imaginations. They are usually imagined during boredom and when writing essays like this instance. And I'm not exempted. Many dreams cross my mind everyday.

Change: it starts with me

The word change may be taken as a verb which means to be different or as a noun which refers to the act of being different. Simple isn't it? But it makes the most sense out of its five letters and single syllable.

Nothing is permanent in this world, except change. That is not only a quote form the Internet nor an intellection from a person's hypothetical thinking. It is a universal fact, an inevitable truth with a scientific basis.

Back when I was in my first year of High School, I had always argued with my brother about this. I seem to not be able to accept it. But at some point in my life, I came to realize that it is an essential part of life. I was mocking myself of being a genius for not understanding change up until then.

Change starts with me. If I can't even change myself for the better, how can I give others the push to change too?

My 25 of January

It was a bright sunny day. The clouds were nicely scattered on the sky with a little sign of rainfall. But it wasn't much of a threat to the people, especially to the Biguenos. It's their fiesta after all.

It was the 25th of January. We've got no classes that day but still went to school for the grand parade. Yes, a grand parade, as how they call it. Up until now, I still don't get the point why we do such a tiring thing. No profit, just a loss of effort. We, CAT officers together with the band and some teachers, gathered at school as early as 7 in the morning. We then marched to the plaza and joined the assembling crowd of students, teachers, organizers, watchers and tourists. And what a bore! we stood there for almost an hour doing nothing, under the blazing hot sun. A bit more and I could have bitten the heed of water. Good thing I was able to resist myself from doing so until the start of our turn to march.

At the streets, everyone was looking at us. I was laughing inside when I saw kids at the banks voice out our command "kaliwa, kaliwa, kaliwa, kanan, kaliwa" while marching on their own. They're kids anyway. Believe it or not, even the adults did some mimicking.

It was definitely a stressful activity. But at least, it was a fun walking, I mean marching on the streets of Vigan in fatigue uniform. And the best thing that happened was when Sir Rabaca praised us for having the best performance of all the attendees.

That ended the day. It was a tiring yet one of a kind experience. Many events took place after the grand parade, but I went home after that for my feet were screaming pain. I wish that for the next 25 of January, I'll be able to enjoy myself to the fullest.

Kannawidan

The province of Ilocos Sur is a fine tourist spot in the north. And nowadays, it is really doing its best to develop its tourism. Just a week after the successful Longganisa festival which was held at the streets of the city of Vigan, it celebrated the young Kannawidan Ylocos Festival.

This festival is celebrated every January and lasts for a week. Even though it is still its 3rd year and new to the eyes of the Ilocanos, it attracted a bunch of people from different lands. As what I saw and experienced with my friends, it improved a lot as to last time we were there. The entrance of the trade street stood beside the Capitol and ran up to the entrance of the City Jail of Vigan. You heard it right. It’s a trade fair. Entrepreneurs from the different cities and municipalities of Region I and even those from Region II and CAR came to the place to showcase their talent and skills through their products. The variety of products which ranged from food to handicrafts made a collision and gave the place a different taste.

The said event just proved a person's creativity can earn him not only money but also benefits in the form of love and gratitude from people. And this skill is something we must develop and a gift we must be truly grateful of.

Magandang pagsasamahan tungo sa maayos at maunlad na lipunan.

United we stand, divided we fall. This I think is the most common phrase when it comes to this thing called “unity”. It’s a five letter word with three syllables. We encounter it almost everyday and yet people find it hard to define the word. By this mere second, would you be able to tell me what it means, even just in your own words?

Were you able to do it? I can’t blame you though. I get it if it took you a minute or two to think about it. People tend to understand unity as a positive idea and remain as such, a word that is always conceived but never believed in by its so-called enforcers by name. That is why it’s never achieved. Every time someone speaks about this, all I hear is “blah blah blah.”

Many of the youth today try their best. And it’s a good move. But I wonder how much time it will consume. I hope it won’t be too late because this ship of ours is sinking in chaos faster than ever.
